Five Republican presidential candidates have
qualified to be counted in the first-ever Idaho
Republican Party presidential caucus, which will
take place in every county in the state on March
6.
In Boundary County, the historic event takes
place from 5 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at
Bonners Ferry High School.
Presidential candidates qualifying for the local
vote are former Massachussets Governor Mitt
Romney,
former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former
Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, Texas
Congressman Ron Paul, and former Louisiana
Governor Buddy Roemer.
"We are delighted to have these five Republican
candidates file to participate in the Idaho
Republican Party Presidential Caucus," said
Idaho Republican chair Norm Semanko, Eagle,
Idaho. "It is becoming apparent that we are on
the radar of the Republican Presidential
candidates as they realize that Idaho's 32
delegates are more delegates than Iowa, New
Hampshire or Nevada."
The move to the caucus system is two-fold,
according to the Idaho GOP.
"First, moving to the caucus allows Idaho
conservatives the chance at casting their vote
early." they state on the Idaho GOP caucus
website,
www.idaho-republican-caucus.com. "In our
case, that means March 6, 2012. In short, by
moving our date up we ensure Idaho has the
chance to be heard and influence who becomes the
GOP nominee. Second, the caucus allows
communities to come together, to enjoy an
evening of entertainment coupled with civic
opportunity. This is Idaho's chance to make a
difference in the presidential nomination
process. Where before Iowa and New Hampshire
have carried the weight, its time for our voice
to be heard!"
