Eagles donates to Explore 4-H program |

The Boundary County Eagles Lodge generously
donated $500 to the Explore 4-H Afterschool Fun
program in Bonners Ferry. The Afterschool
program offers students, grades K-6, a safe,
casual, fun and educational environment on
Friday’s, while their parents work. The October 15th presentation, made by Eagles Melvin Wood, and Dennis Johnson, came after a summer of fundraising by the Eagles Lodge cotton candy booth, primarily during the County Fair. Tom Flory, Eagles Chairperson for the cotton candy booth at the Boundary County Fair said, “One hundred percent of the proceeds from our cotton candy booth go towards Boundary County Youth.” “We are pleased to present Explore 4-H Afterschool Fun with this donation and are very pleased to learn it will fund scholarships for two young people to attend their 4-H Friday program.” Explore 4-H Afterschool Fun has also acquired funding to provide additional scholarships for the program and are eager to fill these slots with students. Christina Cowell, the programs coordinator said, “We are very grateful to the Eagles Lodge for their generous donation. We are also excited that this year we are able to offer a sliding scale to help ease the financial burden for parents and guardians in these tough economic times.” Explore 4-H Afterschool Fun is currently in its sixth year, and is funded through the University of Idaho and grants from USDA Children, Youth and Families at Risk (CYFAR) Program and the Idaho Community Foundation. The CYFAR grant, however, offers no scholarship opportunities for children to attend the program. Explore 4-H Afterschool Fun meets at the Bonners Ferry Middle School on Friday, from 7:30AM to 5:30PM, during the school year. |
