The Family Fun Night action was hot and heavy as kids went head to head in the sack races!
“I think it was a great one because there is hardly no negative comment out there this year,” said fair administrator Sandy Schnepf of this year’s fair just ended. “Wow, people are amazing aren’t they?”

Amazing people who did what is essential to any such undertaking … they participated in just about everything offered, including myriad fun contests and competitions. Here are the winners of just some of them.

Taylor Cromwell did well in the pumpkin seed spitting contest, too, lobbing a seed eight feet to win the six and under bracket. Shahannah Bushnell came in second at 5’7” and Kaylee McCabe third at 4’7”

Earlier Saturday, the 2011 Fair Parade made its way through downtown Bonners Ferry, giving Senator Shawn Keough and Representative George Eskridge a good chance to "drag Main!"

In keeping with the theme of this year's fair, a number of aliens alit in Bonners Ferry just in time to take part in the parade. Close encounters of the best kind!
Beth Byars won in the “I started with a mix cake” division, and county commissioner Walt Kirby stirred $145 loose to purchase it, and Peggy Clark won in the Other Cakes category, with her entry going to commissioner Ron Smith for $165. Gina Stolley won for the best pie, and it must have been good, because Senator Shawn Keough paid $250 for it, and Lauren Bowlby had the best theme cake, which commissioner Dan Dinning purchased for $110.

The picture's a little blurry, but it's hard keeping steady when the action heats up in the greased pig contest!
In the Reach for the Stars Prize Drawing, Kathy Konek won first place and an apron, Anne Tompkins won second place and an apron, Alex Nick finished third, winning potholders, Brandon Neuman fourth and double potholders, Linda Lopez came in fifth and won pillowcases, Gayle Alexander sixth, winning a handbag, Lucy Jensen seventh, also winning a handbag, Brady Hinthorn came in eighth, winning a goose pillow, and Charlotte Kothe came in ninth, winning a pig pillow.

Winner of best display booth was the Property Owner’s Association, and LaMar’s Sales and Service won the business window contest.

The general concensus of everyone polled confirms the sense Sandy took away from the fair once she was able to sit back and catch her breath ... it was out of this world!
