There was
quite a crowd at the Boundary County all
day Saturday for this year's Young Eagle
Rally! |
Saturday, July 23, was a perfect day for flying,
and nine pilots took 121 kids into the beautiful
blue skies of Boundary County.
Pilots Neven Miller took flight 18 times, Bill
Snyder 20, Roger King six, Phil Beachy six,
Carla Dedera nine, Jeff Pederson three, Chris
Wheeler went up 26 times, Jim Fairchild 24 and
Pete Kuckenberg took off and landed nine times.
"The day was beautiful with clear skies and
hardly any turbulance," a beaming Dedera said.
"Our ground crews were ready to work and we
surely couldn't have done this without them."
|
Shane Cleave,
8, got to take his first airplane ride
with pilot Roger King in a beautiful
1946 Aeronca. |
Shane Sater, Jade Parker and Johannes Snyder
worked the registration table to get all the
kids signed in. Kristi Kline assigned the kids
to the pilots and shared her much-needed
expertise with the process. Barb Sargent and
Colet Allen sorted all the paperwork and
answered a ton of questions.
Jan Lee printed all the certificates that
proudly proclaim the 121 kids Young Eagles,
Leslie Gillett manned the T-shirt booth and
helped out wherever needed. Jordan Parker sold
more than 45 ice cream cones, and Adam, this
year's Young Eagle scholarship winner, manned
telephones and fielded five calls from residents
irate with all the airplane noise, and did a
great job by explaining what all the noise was
about, and Airport manager Dave Parker
personally helped kids into and out of a rare
attraction ... a beautiful blue helicopter
giving kids free rides!
There'll be activity at the airport again this
Saturday, but a bit more quiet, as they've
having another fantastic huckleberry pancake
breakfast. Drive in or fly in, all are welcome!
