A deer is the cause of a serious two vehicle
accident this morning in Bonner County,
according the the Idaho State Police. At about 11:14 a.m., Keith Nicholas, 37, Libby, was traveling east on U.S. 2 near milepost 25 in a Merkur Model XR4TI when a deer bounded onto the roadway in front of him from the south ditch. Nicholas hit the deer, sending it flying into the westbound lane, where the deer went through the windshield of a Toyota Scion driven by Judith Linker, 69, Sandpoint, causing her to veer off the south shoulder of the highway, where she hit a high-tension power pole, crossed a creek and came to rest on the opposite bank. Nicholas was able to bring his car to a controlled stop, and was not injured in the crash, but Linker was flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center, Spokane. The accident remains under investigation by Idaho State Police Corporal Jeff Jayne. |
