Moyie already has youth center |
December 29, 2016 |
Taken from the minutes of the November 07, 2016
Commissioners meeting ... Boundary Economic
Development Director Dennis Weed.
"Mr. Weed said the City of Bonners Ferry was
awarded the High Five Grant and he has applied
for a grant of $50,000 for the City of Moyie
Springs through the United Pacific Foundation
for a proposed youth center in the Moyie Springs
area. Details will need to be worked out as far
as supporting ongoing maintenance, according to
Mr. Weed."
Mr. Weed, I commend your efforts. However, Moyie
Springs already has a youth center. It is called
"outdoors." It involves riding bikes, walking
with parents, playing in the yard with their
pets and neighbors, walking to the store,
sledding and many more activities.
A building requires staffing, supplies, water,
electric, cleaning, maintenance and who knows
what else. Who is going to pay for it all? The
school bond is already a crunch for many. Not to
mention the looming bill for the mega-wastewater
plant for some.
Oh wait, I almost forgot. At city hall, 1/2 of
the building already has all of the above. It's
only used in the evening two to three days a
month, if that? Hmm ... |
