Earth Day fair offers fun, friends and common sense

April 2, 2011
Bet you didn't know that  News Bonners Ferry was an eco-friendly website! While the computer used to keep the site updated plugs into the wall, the Ipower servers that make it available to the world are  powered solely by wind. And look! A local "paper" wasting no paper!
The second annual Earth Day Fair is coming to the Boundary County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 23, as organizer's had so much fun last year, they're doing it again ... but bigger and better!

They got off to a good start last year, and are building on that success this year, educating and inspiring our community toward a better, brighter and greener future by showing how families and businesses can benefit by adopting sustainable living practices.

Anyone who has an idea, information or a product to sell with the motif of keeping it green, or those who'd like to educate people in our community about the 3-Rs ... reduce, reuse and recycle, are encouraged to participate.

All those interested in learning more about green living, how our community is fitting in and what each family can do ... or who just want to have fun and meet people and socialize, are encouraged to stop by for a visit, as there will be food booths, children's activities, a free swap meet, music and much more.

Performers on line to appear include the inimitable Barb Robertson, Pamela Bennett, even a local Marimba band. In addition, guest speakers will give talks on energy efficient housing, wildlife rehabilitation, gardening and the amazing life of bees.

Organizers, emboldened by the success of last year's Earth Day Fair, have spread their wings this year, expanding their advertising campaign beyond the Boundary County Community and working more closely with local businesses to make sure that their efforts in the drive to "Go Green" are not only noticed, but able to show why it makes good business sense to practice sustainability.
