Badgers end strong cross country season |

In the Idaho State 3A cross country championship
today at Eagle Island State Park, Boise, the
Badger girls finished in eighth place overall
and the boys were 10th. The Sugar-Salem Diggers dominated the meet, with both the boys and girls teams taking home the 2017 state titles. On the girls side, junior Karlie Callahan, Shelley, took the individual title with a time of 19:01.04. In team scoring, Sugar-Salem led with 54 points, Kimberly came in second with 76, Buhl was third with 90, Shelley fourth with 93, and Timberlake led for the Intermountain League with 111 for a fifth place finish. Bonners Ferry scored 200 for their eighth place finish, Priest River Lamanna came in 10th with 238 points. Timberlake junior Abigail Peightal was the first runner to cross the line at 20:19.58 for a tenth place finish, and Badger senior Jordan Young finished 12th at 20:24.22. Sophomore Abigail Gorton finished the run in 27th at 21:34.76, senior Ada Bonnell finished 56th at 23:25.29, junior Lauren Stidham was right behind at 23:30.78 for a 57th place finish, sophomore Serenity Fahey came in 77th at 24:53.12, senior Madi Hoggan was 82nd in 25:43.87 and freshman runner Lauren Onstott rounded out the Badger effort with an 84th place finish and a time of 27:40.11. On the boys side, Sugar-Salem put the first three runners across the finish line, led by Brennan Anderson at 16:04.09, to win state 3A hardware with 24 points, followed by Shelley, 61. Timberlake finished third with 132, Snake River fourth with 133, and Buhl fifth with 148. From the Intermountain League, Priest River finished ninth with 198 and Bonners Ferry 10th with 258 points. From the IML, Priest River junior Cameron Parkes led at 17:26.83for an 18th place finish. Sophomore Austin Donn led the Badgers with an 18:39.55 run for a 45th place finish, followed across the line by fellow sophomore Hunter Smith, who finished 46th at 18:43.92. Senior Dawson Thomas came in 67th at 19:33.86, junior Sam Gorton 70th at 19:45.04, senior Ryne Rae, 74th at 20:07.40, freshman Lane Stidham 75th at 20:11.02, and senior Bobby Hart on his heels at 20:11.72 for a 76th place finish. |
