Lewis-Clark State College to celebrate 125th birthday |
October 26, 2017 |
In celebration of its 125th anniversary,
Lewis-Clark State College will hold a number of
commemorative events in 2018 during a yearlong
celebration of the college’s past, present, and
future. The college will turn 125 on January 27, 2018. The date marks the anniversary of when Idaho Governor William J. McConnell authorized the establishment of Lewiston State Normal School in 1893. “We are celebrating a dynamic, resilient, dedicated institution that has thrived by meeting the needs of our students,” LCSC President J. Anthony Fernandez said. “Lewis-Clark State College continues this tradition by vigorously embracing the future and we ask you to join us as we journey forward.” To help everyone stay abreast of the year’s activities, the college has developed an anniversary website: 125.lcsc.edu. Visit the site to learn about events, LCSC’s history and timeline, and even share memories. Alumni, friends, the general public are invited to share their favorite stories about LCSC, which will be published on the website. All are encouraged to check the site often as it will be periodically updated with new events, announcements, and user-submitted memories. LCSC will hold special events throughout the year, starting with the Raise the Flag celebration on Jan. 27 at 2-4 p.m. at the LCSC Silverthorne Theatre. The event includes a social with music provided by the LCSC Jazz band, a presentation of LCSC’s history, and a ceremonial unveiling of a flag on top of Reid Centennial Hall as a tribute to the school’s founding vision and spirit of perseverance. The flag is also depicted in the commemorative anniversary logo. Also in January will be a birthday party. On January 29, the birthday bash for the college will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Student Union Building and will feature refreshments, prizes, a photo booth, memory wall, and more. All anniversary events, unless otherwise noted, are free and open to the public. Some of the other events planned throughout the year to help commemorate the anniversary include commencement on May 11, a Coeur d’Alene Lake cruise on September 15, and Homecoming October 18-20, which will wrap up the celebration. Additional events are also being planned and details will be announced later this year. As part of the 125th celebration, the college has set a goal of raising $1.25 million to be used in a variety of areas, including scholarships, degree programs, athletics and the LCSC general fund. Donors have the choice of where their donation will go. To donate or for more information, visit the anniversary website and click on the “donate” button. |
